Tattapani is a small village in Mandi district and is nestled on the bank of the Satluj River. The name "Tattapani" is self-descriptive which means hot water. It is popular for its hot water Sulphur springs. This Sulphur water is believed to have therapeutic properties which can heal various kinds of skin ailments.
Tattapani is located at an altitude of 2230 feet above the sea level. The weather remains moderate throughout the year and every season offers its own charisma and delight. However, summer and winters are considered to be the best time for complete indulgence. Tattapani is located at a distance of 38 Km from Auramah Valley and 51 Kms from Shimla.

RIVER RAFTING

In the recent years, Tattapani has emerged as a popular destination for water sports activities. It’s the only place in Shimla which offers whitewater rafting on Satluj River, probably one of the longest rivers of India. You can begin your river rafting adventure from Sunni to Tattapani at a 5 Km river course.

Another option available is a course of 12 Km from powerhouse Chabba to Tattapani, and if you want to challenge your limits, you can raft on a stretch of 35 Km from Pandowa to Tattapani. Make sure that you are choosing a professional and licensed rafting operation, always wear a life jacket, understand and follow the commands of your instructor, always stay in the boat, you should know the proper swimming techniques and all above stay safe and comfortable.

Tattapani is renowned for its natural hot Sulphur springs. The word Tattapni means hot water and the name of this place owes its origin to these hot Sulphur water springs.

It is a scientific fact that the Sulphur water provides relief from various skin ailments, joint pains, stress, and exhaustion. Not only locals but a lot of tourists from all across the country and globe visit here to enjoy and experience the benefits of hot Sulphur water bath. There are some local vendors who provide for a bathing arrangement within a covered fencing area and in a bathtub for the people who are not comfortable in taking baths in open riverbed area. The remaining submerged hot water springs will be restored soon by boring the hot water beds through pipes

the Kol Dam Reservoir

Tattapani Dam Reservoir popularly known as Koldam Dam Hydropower Project has been built on the Satluj River with the motive of Hydroelectric power generation. This dam was constructed by the National Thermal Power Corporation and supports an 800 MW power station and is located at Barmana in Bilaspur.

This human-made marvel is an excellent tourist attraction and attracts a large number of travelers towards it. At this place, you will undoubtedly be mesmerized by the greenish blue waters of the dam and gorgeous picturesque views of the surroundings. It's a perfect place where you can go out on a picnic with your family and can also explore the areas nearby the reservoir. You may also go boating if you like.

the Shali Peak

Shali ka Tibba is one of the highest peaks in the surrounding areas of Shimla. It is located at an altitude of 2,870 Mts and offers an impressive 360-degree view of the surrounding areas such as Shimla, Kufri, Mashobra, Narkanda, and Fagu. Shali ka Tibba has been named after a local deity whose temple is situated right on the mountaintop.

The march to Shali hilltop is alluring as the charm of the valley, and the aura of the forests will engage your senses in a deep repose and carry your soul to a tranquil world. It's quite an easy trek and can be finished in a single day but make sure that you start early in the morning and carry a first aid kit, medicines, raincoat, torch, food and fresh water. It's an ideal place to spend a lovely weekend with your family and dear ones.

the Mahunag Temple

The Mahunag Temple is situated at a distance of 48 Kms from Tattapani, 25 Kms from Karsog and is a primitive styled Pahari Temple. As per the beliefs of locals, this is the place where Lord Karna, the son of Kunti and the Sun God, mediated. In the local language, Mahunag symbolizes Lord Karna. Sunday is considered to be an auspicious day to pay a visit to the Temple. During the month of May people from all parts of Himachal gather here to celebrate the Mahunag Festival with great enthusiasm

There is a lodging facility available within the Temple premises. However, visitors can also pre-book PWD guest house and Forest rest house for their stay. Apart from the Mahunag Temple, you can also explore other notable places of the region such as Shikari Devi Temple, Mamaleshwar temple, Kamaksha Temple, Churag, and Sundernagar.
